Four public secondary schools have made it into the top 10 NAPLAN performers on the northern beaches, according to the latest data.

The top six schools on the peninsula also made it into the top 100 schools in NSW.

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Campus, a public selective school, was the top northern beaches performer once again. It was also 10th best in NSW.

Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Campus has topped the charts again.

The German International School Sydney in Terrey Hills was a surprise second, knocking St Luke’s Grammar School from the number two position it held last year.

Northern Beaches Secondary College Mackellar Girls Campus came third, Pittwater House fourth and St Luke’s fifth. The government data relates to NAPLAN tests taken last year.

Christine Del Gallo, principal of the public secondary Mackellar Girls, said she was ecstatic with their results and said it was down to the fact that her students knew that they were coming to school to learn. “They understand the expectations of the school and the importance of applying themselves to be the best they can,” Ms Del Gallo said.

“We constantly achieve in NAPLAN and HSC because that is the culture of school.” She added that literacy and numeracy was at the centre of everything.

Meanwhile, Dr Horst Giesler, Deputy Principal of the fee-paying German International School Sydney, Dr Horst Giesler, said he was proud of their outstanding NAPLAN results, but they did not prepare their students for the exams.

“Given our IB Diploma in Years 11 and 12, GISS naturally attracts academically strong students who often join our school to study our broad Australian/German curriculum which focuses on languages, maths and the sciences,” he said.

“Of course, our highly qualified teachers must also be mentioned here, especially as we do not specifically prepare our students for NAPLAN.

“Rather, we encourage our students to strive for individual academic success while making the most of our bilingual and international school environment.”
