The Year 11 Visual Arts IB students have spent Term 1 working on a unit titled Where are you now? A sense of place: visual exploration of your surroundings.

Armed with their sketch books and a plethora of materials, the students have been looking at the world around them and have been busy sketching, mapping, collaging, photographing and reflecting.

Along the way, they have looked at the work of many artists and as part of the unit, we went out into our local area to do some sketching from nature in the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park.

We also spent a day in the city where we went to see the Brett Whiteley exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW followed by some urban sketching around Sydney. The students are now developing a more sustained piece of artwork based on these explorations. Watch this space to see the final outcomes from these talented artists!
