COVID 19

IS THE GISS CAMPUS OPEN?

In accordance with the NSW government guidelines campus activity will be reduced to a minimum in order to adhere to strict social distancing measures. Most teaching staff will work from home to conduct off-campus learning. However, some teaching staff will be available on-campus to conduct student supervision during school hours.

The provision of on-campus student supervision is intended for children of essential services workers, children in need, and children of parents with no option other than to send their children to school. However, our expectation is that children will remain at home unless parents meet these criteria. Essential services workers includes health workers, teachers, pharmacists, emergency service workers, and people employed in supermarkets and logistics services.

IMPORTANT: You need to register your child’s attendance by emailing ATTEND@GISS.NSW.EDU.AU by 4PM the night before.

OFF-CAMPUS LEARNING

At GISS, we are proud to deliver high-quality education and we will continue do so under these exceptional circumstances. We are committed to provide an alternative means of education in the form of off-campus learning. For more information about our off-campus learning concept please click here.

OUR COMMUNITY

The novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is continuing to spread globally and health officials worldwide are taking steps to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 into local communities. Schools can play an important role in this effort which is why GISS is taking proactive steps to spread information about the disease and its potential transmission within our school community.

Everyone in our GISS community has a role to play in getting ready and staying healthy. The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount and thus we are focusing on precautionary measures as outlined below:

PRECAUTION

The best way to prevent the spread of this virus is to practise social-distancing and to employ effective hygiene processes: Frequent handwashing with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitiser and practising proper cough and sneeze etiquette.

When at school please sanitise your hands on the way in and out.

NO UNNECESSARY VISITS TO SCHOOL

We would ask that any parents or family members who have travelled anywhere overseas not to enter the GISS campus for a period of 14 days after arriving back in Australia.

CANCELLATION OF ALL CLASS CAMPS & EXCURSIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

All scheduled class camps and excursions are being cancelled until further notice. We understand that this will cause disappointment amongst students, but we are hoping to reschedule them at a later point in the school year.

FEELING UNWELL?

Leave your child at home and seek medical attention if you, your child(ren) or anyone in your immediate family is exhibiting flu like symptoms (or a common cold) or consider yourself at high risk of exposure.

INFORMATION

The Australian Government Department of Health website continues to be an excellent resource for up-to-date information that relates to COVID-19. For a more international view you might visit the website of the World Health Organisation

COMMUNITY EVENTS

All GISS events are currently on hold due to the evolving COVID 19 pandemic. Our event calendar is for reference only and reviews will be circulated as each event approaches and with reference to current Government advice.

WHAT CAN PARENTS/CARERS DO?

  • Leave your child at home and seek medical attention if you, your child(ren) or anyone in your immediate family is exhibiting flu like symptoms (including the common cold) or consider yourself at high risk of exposure.
  • Practice good hand and respiratory hygiene:
    • Thorough & frequent hand washing
    • Cover sneezes and coughs
    • Avoid touching the face
  • Reconsider international travel as travel advisories and re-entry bans can change at any time. We ask you to carefully weigh the need to travel internationally at this point.

REGULAR UPDATES VIA THE GISS APP

Please note that GISS is in close contact with the health authorities and continuously monitoring WHO, AIS, Department of Health and Department of Education advisories and actions on information from those official sources. We will provide regular updates via the school app on any further measures that might be necessary as the situation evolves. In the meantime, we would like to encourage everyone to practice everyday prevention measures like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick, and covering coughs and sneezes.

If you do have any questions or concerns, please email us directly via health@giss.nsw.edu.au.
